President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (03/10) welcomed the arrival of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tô Lâm and Spouse Ngô Phu’o’ng Ly at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
This visit coincided with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam.
Around 4.30 p.m. local time, General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse arrived at the front yard of the Merdeka Palace. They were welcomed by the honor guard and elementary school students who waved Indonesian and Vietnamese national flags.
Upon arrival, General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse were welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. They warmly shook hands and proceeded to the venue of the state ceremony. The ceremony began with the national anthems of both countries. During the ceremony, 21-gun salutes were fired as a mark of honor for the state visit, followed by an inspection of troops and an introduction of both countries’ delegates.
The two leaders then headed to the Credential Room for a photo session and guest book signing, followed by a tête-à-tête meeting at President Prabowo’s office.
After the tête-à-tête, President Prabowo and General Secretary Tô Lâm had a bilateral meeting attended by delegations from both countries. In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed appreciation for General Secretary Tô Lâm’s visit to Indonesia, and the Indonesia-Vietnam close relations, which was built on a strong foundation of the first president of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh and the first president of Indonesia Soekarno.
“This year is a great moment for our countries to elevate our relationship to a higher level—a comprehensive strategic partnership,” President Prabowo said.
As the closing event of the state visit, President Prabowo hosted a state banquet for General Secretary Tô Lâm, Mrs. Ngô Phu’o’ng Ly, and the Vietnamese delegation at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. This visit is expected to strengthen the diplomatic relations between the two countries that have been firmly established and open up new cooperation opportunities in the future. (BPMI) (EST/MUR)
