The upcoming international sport events in Indonesia are expected to boost tourism in the country, according to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno.

“We have discussed preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy were given the task of preparing tour packages as well as creative economy exhibitions which will become part of the promotional offer for spectators and participants of the World Cup.” the Minister said after a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Jakarta, Thursday (07/13).

For the record, Indonesia will host at least two international sports events in the near future, namely the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Sandiaga went on to say that the Ministry will ensure all tourist destinations produce curated creative economy products.

The Minister also expressed his optimism that the FIFA U-17 World Cup will bring the opportunity to attract foreign tourists as well as become a promotional event for the targeted countries. According to him, the U-17 players will also open up tourism opportunities with the presence of their parents and families.

The Minister further said that international sport events will bring benefit to the people of Indonesia.

“Indonesia’s tourism has been able to grow far above the target. We should be grateful for this, and we must speed up the progress with several innovations so that international sport events will benefit communities and can open up business opportunities and create jobs,” he remarked.
