Leani Ratri Oktila-Khalimatus Sadiyah Win Gold Medal for Indonesia at Tokyo Paralympics

Paralympic badminton pair Leani Ratri Oktila and Khalimatus Sadiyah won the first gold medal for Indonesian contingent in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
Ratri and Khalimatus, who played at the SL3-SU5 women’s doubles final para-badminton event at Yoyogi National Stadium, Saturday (04/09), succeeded to achieve a gold medal after defeating Cheng Hefang and Ma Huihui from China two games in a row with scores of 21-18 and 21-12.
Previously, badminton players Dheva Anrimusthi and Suryo Nugroho who competed at the SU5 men’s singles managed to win a silver medal and a bronze medal, respectively.
Dheva who played as the top seed won silver after his lost to second seed Cheah Like Hou from Malaysia with scores of 17-21 and 15-21. Meanwhile, Suryo Nugroho won bronze after winning from Taiwanese athlete Fang Jen Yu in two straight games with scores of 21-16 and 21-9.
Tomorrow, Sunday (05/09), the Red and White Contingent still has a chance to achieve more gold medals from Leani Ratri Oktila who will compete at the SL4 women’s singles final badminton event and at the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles final badminton event with Hary Susanto.
At the women’s singles event, Ratri will compete against Cheng Hefang from China, while at the mixed doubles event, Ratri and Hary will play against French pair Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel.
To date, the Indonesian contingent has achieved six medals and ranked 53rd at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The six medals were won by Leani Ratri Oktila and Khalimatus Sadiyah (gold), Dheva Anrimusthi (silver), and Suryo Nugroho (silver) in para-badminton; Ni Nengah Widiasih in women’s 41-kg para-powerlifting event (silver); Saptoyogo Purnomo in T37 men’s 100-meter para-athletics (bronze); and David Jacobs in men’s singles class 10 para-table tennis (bronze).
