President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered personnel of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) to prepare themselves to face global geopolitical changes and issues.

“We have to be cautious and careful amidst threats and challenges arising from global geopolitical changes. I have told them earlier that TNI must be prepared,” the President said after watching the TNI personnel parade and defense equipment (alutsista) exhibition to commemorate TNI 77th Anniversary, Wednesday (10/05).

The President also stressed the importance of the alutsista to support TNI in facing threats and challenges in geopolitical global changes.

“Many Army’s alutsista have been showcased but we are unable to showcase Air Force’s and Navy’s alutsista. These are just small parts from all alutsista we have in preparation to face threats and challenges from global geopolitical changes. These must be ready,” he said.

The President also acknowledged he often held meetings with Commander of the TNI and TNI Chiefs of Staff to make sure TNI’s preparation for global geopolitical changes.

”Last Monday, I called Commander of the TNI and all the Chiefs of Staff. We had conversations to be aware of the daily, weekly, and monthly changes of global geopolitical,” he added.

The President also pointed out that the world is currently in crisis and full of uncertainties. According to him, the world is in the midst of food, energy, and financial crisis from post-pandemic and is now worsened  by Russia-Ukraine war.

“To face this situation, Indonesia must always be careful and beware. We must strengthen national unity, maintain peace, continue to help each other, stay united. Thus Indonesia can face this heavy world crisis,” he said.

Indonesia also has responsibilities to contribute to the world, he added.

This year, he added, G20 has entrusted Indonesia to assume the G20 Presidency and to become member of Champion Group of the Global Crisis Response of the United Nations, and will assume chairmanship of ASEAN.

“We must show the world that Indonesia’s presidency of G20 is able to take actions and give concrete solutions to stop global crisis and establish the world that is more capable in facing the next challenges,” he remarked. (TGH/RF/UN) (AS/EP)
