President Jokowi Attends Dahau Festival in W. Kutai Regency

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (11/3) attended the Dangai Ehau (Dahau) Festival in West Kutai regency, East Kalimantan province.

The cultural festival was held to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of the regency.

“I am very pleased to be here in the land of Tanaa Purai Ngeriman (a fertile land with abundant blessings) and to attend the Dahau Festival. This is the most eagerly awaited festival by the community in West Kutai regency held to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of West Kutai regency. Happy 24th Anniversary of West Kutai regency,” President Jokowi said.

On that occasion, the President also underscored that the festival is a part of efforts to preserve as well as promote local culture.

“Preserving and promoting local culture, boosting the creative industry in the region is our duty. Through cultural festivals, we can learn about the richness of our traditions and cultural values, tolerance, and harmony that have been inherited by our ancestors,” he added.

President Jokowi also extended his appreciation to residents in West Kutai regency who have showed the spirit of solidarity and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity).

“In West Kuta regency, there is Dayak Bahau community, Dayak Aoheng community, Dayak Tunjung community, Dayak Kenyah community, Dayak Benuaq community, and Melayu community that have diverse traditions but still happily live in harmony and respect each other,” he said.

The Head of State also expressed gratitude to everyone in West Kutai regency for the support in developing Indonesia’s new capital of Nusantara (IKN).

“I also would like to express my gratitude to everyone in West Kutai regency, especially Dayak communities, for conferring me with an honorary title and for supporting the development of our new capital, the city of the future,” he remarked. (TGH/UN) (AP/EP)
