President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (09/25) called on all members of the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) to foster harmony, tolerance, and unity amidst Indonesia’s rich diversity.

The President also introduced the concept of the Nusantara Capital (IKN) as a green city with low emissions, designed for an inclusive and sustainable civilization.

“The air quality index here is six; [good] air quality index should not exceed 50, while Jakarta’s daily air quality index is around 190,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the silaturahmi (strengthening bonds) event with FKUB held at the State Palace, Nusantara Capital, East Kalimantan province.

On that occasion, the President highlighted the long history of the capital relocation, which dates back to the era of President Soekarno.

After several years of in-depth studies, he said, it was determined that East Kalimantan province was the most suitable location for the new capital.

The President also underscored the crucial role of FKUB in fostering religious harmony and moderation amid Indonesia’s social and political dynamics.

To that end, the President urged all relevant parties to keep fostering dialogue and ensure social stability, particularly with two major events approaching, namely the national leadership transition on October 20, 2024, and the regional head elections in November.

“If any issues that have the potential to divide us arise, no matter how minor they are, address them quickly in a calm, peaceful manner. This approach will help preserve stability and enable our development and economic growth as a great nation to proceed,” the President stated.

Concluding his remarks, the President expressed hope that collective efforts to uphold unity and harmony will persist for the betterment of the nation.

For the record, this gathering also serves as a vital opportunity to reinforce our commitment to preserving diversity and achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. (ECH/DNS) (RIF/RAS/MMB)
