In a press statement at Dumai City’s Senggol Market, Riau Province, on Saturday (06/01), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo revealed that Pertamina is now 100 percent in control of the Rokan Block in terms of ownership and management. This is also one of the reasons for choosing Dumai as the location for the Pancasila Day ceremony, symbolizing Indonesia’s sovereignty.

“The Rokan Block in Dumai, Riau province, is now 100 percent owned by Pertamina, owned by our country, Indonesia, and managed 100 percent by our own people,” stated the President.

The President added that oil production in the Rokan Block has significantly increased since being managed by Indonesians. Previously, when managed by Chevron, the Rokan Block only produced 130,000 barrels of oil daily. After being taken over by Pertamina, it increased to 162,000 barrels daily.

“This means that when our own people work on it, there is an increase, and that is good,” he added.

President Jokowi has set an ambitious target to increase production to more than 200,000 barrels daily. “I am giving a target to exceed 200 (thousand barrels per day),” said the President.

Regarding the strategy to achieve this target, the President stated that Pertamina has already started using promising new technology. According to him, this technology has already been implemented in one well, resulting in a multiplied production.

“This will be developed in other selected wells so that production can increase drastically,” explained the President.

The President added that exploration with this new technology will continue this year, targeting two or three new wells next year. “Next year, it will start with two or three (wells),” said the President, expressing optimism about technological advancements and national energy independence.
