President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (04/10) has asserted that prices of staple food in general have dropped.

The statement was made by the President after inspecting Legi Market in Surakarta city, Central Java province to monitor prices of staple food.

“Based on my observation, the prices in general have declined. For instance the price of egg has declined from Rp30 thousand to Rp25 thousand, [the price of] shallot has also declined to around Rp26 thousand and Rp25 thousand, and garlic also has declined to Rp24 thousand,” he said.

In addition, the price of rice has also slightly declined. The Head of State expressed hope that the prices could be lower since harvests have started in a number of regions.

“[Price of] rice also drops slightly by Rp300-400. If more harvests take place, more grand harvests take place, we expect the price to go down which will eventually bring down inflation at lower rate,” he said adding that the decline in commodity prices is caused by abundant supply.

On that occasion, the President also handed over social assistance to the market vendors. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/MMB)
