President Jokowi Greets Locals at Kelapa Lima Beach in Kupang

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (12/05) continued his working visit in East Nusa Tenggara province by visiting the provincial capital Kupang. After landing at the El Tari International Airport, the President was welcomed by many people along the way to the hotel.
The Head of State decided to stop and greet the people in Kelapa Lima Beach area at 17.20 local time after many people shouted his name. The people then approached him to greet the President in person.
Accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Acting Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Ayodhia Kalake, and Acting Mayor of Kupang Fahrensy P. Funay, the President headed to the seashore to enjoy the atmosphere of Kelapa Lima Beach, which he inaugurated last year. While observing the beach situation on that sunny afternoon, he accepted some invitations from local people to take selfies.
The people expressed their happiness meeting their beloved President. One of them is Mea, a local from Kupang. She told the media that she has met the President in person for several times, but she was so excited this time as she could take a selfie closer to the President.
“I’m so happy, this is actually my third encounter with the President, but I have never been this close before. I’m very happy, very excited,” she said.
Mea also mentioned that the Kelapa Lima beach is now a new favorite tourist destination for the locals. “Many people could make money here, as it has become a new tourist destination,” Mea added.
Meanwhile, Daniel, a 5th grade student, also said that he was very happy to meet the President at the beach. He also expressed his satisfaction seeing that the beach has become more beautiful.
For the record, President Jokowi has officially inaugurated the arrangement of three areas in Kupang city on March 24th 2022, comprising Kelapa Lima beach, LLBK/Kota Lama beach (Kupang Old Town), and Frans Seda road corridor. Back then, the President expressed his hope that the arrangement could improve the face of tourist destinations and make tourists enjoy visiting Kupang.
