President Jokowi Highlights Importance of Maintaining Supply of Staple Foods
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo underscored the importance of maintaining the supply of staple foods to keep their prices under control.
“For example, the price of eggs will drop as long as the supply is sufficient and plentiful. The price of chilies will drop if the production, meaning the supply, is abundant. That is the key. We must prevent the shortage of supply,” the President stated after visiting Natar Market in South Lampung regency, Lampung province, Friday (05/05).
The President also highlighted the importance of good infrastructure, especially roads, so that logistics costs can be lowered and the supply of basic commodities can flow smoothly.
“This will affect the prices in this market as this is the key. The cost of logistics is very dependent on whether our infrastructure is good or not,” he stressed.
Regarding the price of basic commodities in the Natar Market, the Head of State said that the prices of a number of food commodities in the market are still quite under control.
“First, I checked the price of eggs. The price is very good, very good, Rp27,000, Rp26,000. The price of chilies is very cheap, not cheap, very cheap, very cheap. The shallots are also at a good price. The price of garlic is also good, Rp30,000,” he remarked.
The President also pointed out that the price of food commodities greatly affects the inflation rate. (DND/UN) (FI/HD)
