President Jokowi Holds a Bilateral Meeting with President Joe Biden

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with the USA President Joe Biden at The Apurva Kempinski Bali, on Monday (11/14). During the meeting, President Jokowi appreciated President Biden for attending the G20 Summit in Indonesia.

“President Biden, welcome to Bali. I would like to extend my appreciation to President Biden for attending the G20 Summit,” President Jokowi said.

President Jokowi expressed his hope that the G20 Summit could facilitate concrete cooperations.

“I hope that the G20 Summit could encourage concrete cooperations that helps global economic recovery,” President Jokowi expressed.

Indonesia hoped that all G20 countries could ensure flexibility, so the concrete commitments pledged at the summit can be fulfilled.

During the meeting, President Jokowi also addressed other issue, namely, the importance of Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) cooperation. Indonesia is committed to support and actively participate in IPEF.

“Indonesia always refers to concrete cooperations. I will assign Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs to follow up the IPEF cooperation,” the President mentioned.

Meanwhile, concerning the Indo-Pacific region, President Jokowi outlined the importance of discussing security issues. However, according to the President, Indo-Pacific economic cooperation is important as well and needs to be strengthened.

“The partnership of Indonesia, ASEAN, and the USA to enhance welfare in the Indo-Pacific region needs to be strengthened,” the President affirmed.

President Jokowi added that as the ASEAN Chairman, next year Indonesia will organize Indo-Pacific Infrastructure Forum, one of the implementations of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo Pacific (AOIP) concepts.

 “I really hope that the USA could participate in the forum as a support of the USA to the AOIP,” President Jokowi conveyed.

Accompanying President Jokowi during the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif.
