President Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meeting with UK Prime Minister
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (05/20) had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak at the Grand Prince Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan.
During the meeting, the President expressed his appreciation on the realization of solar energy projects in Sumba and hydro energy projects in Lombok, Bali and West Sumatra, as well as the UK’s grants of approximately US$11 million for sustainable transportation in Indonesia cities.
“I hope it can be expanded to other cities, including the Nusantara Capital,” the President said.
The President also expressed hope that the United Kingdom’s commitment for the Just Energy Transition Partnership, the development of the EV ecosystem, and the supply of battery cells and the construction of EV micro factory, as well as investments in the development of the Nusantara Capital, transportation, green energy and education will be materialized.
Regarding trade cooperation between the two countries, the President said that the Due Diligence policy for agricultural and forestry products should not discriminate against Indonesia’s main commodities.
According to the President, in the 42nd ASEAN Summit the leaders of ASEAN fully supported Indonesia’s measures to engage with all stakeholders. The President also expressed Indonesia’s efforts in facilitating the AHA Center so that the Joint Needs Assessment could be completed.
“The Five-Point Consensus will remain the main reference in resolving the Myanmar conflict and the AHA Center is currently working to distribute humanitarian aid. The measures need international support, including the UK,” the President said.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak congratulated President Jokowi on Indonesia’s leadership in the G20. According to the Prime Minister, Indonesia has successfully held the G20 presidency. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MMB)
