Quality of Indonesian handicraft products are getting better as seen in Jakarta International Handicraft Trade Fair (Inacraft), according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

The President said that the products displayed at the exhibition have fulfilled the Government’s expectation, which is an improvement of local products in terms of capacity, quality, competitiveness, design, and prestige, especially for export purpose.

To date, there are 700,000 business units in the Small and Medium Enterprise (UKM) craft category which have absorbed around 1.3 million workers. The export value also continues to increase, even though it only covers 1.26 percent of the total global market share.

“We should boost Indonesia’s market share,” President Jokowi said at the Opening of  Inacraft 2019 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta.

The President went on to say that if the country’s market is rising, more UKMs will be developed and more workers will be employed.

On that occasion, President Jokowi reminded the craftsmen to continue maintain their creativity and to be more innovative in order to break the market. They also need to penetrate the international market, searching for non-traditional markets, improve their products’ quality and authenticity, as well as create good branding.

The President also welcomed the development of Inacraft’s online fair as today is the digital era. With online system, overseas buyers will get easier access to purchase Indonesian handicraft products.

“By saying Bismillahhirrahmannirrahim, I declare that  Inacraft 2019 officially begins,” President Jokowi said.

For the record, Inacraft is held from 24-28 April and followed by 1,700 participants, consisting of 26% regional agencies, 9% ministries / state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and the remaining are individual participants. The event is estimated to attract 1,000 overseas buyers. (HIM/JAY/ES)
