President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (09/12) inspected Kranggot market in Cilegon city, Banten province to check the prices of basic commodities.

“The prices of staple food are under control. Shallots that were sold at around Rp30 thousand, Rp40 thousand now are sold at around Rp17 thousand,” President Jokowi said after inspecting the market.

The President went on to say that the price of chili has dropped considering that the chili was harvested in the province.

“The chili has been harvested and grown in Banten province,” he said.

On that occasion, President Jokowi noticed that there is problem with rice prices in Kranggot market. To that end, the Head of State asked the National Food Agency (BPN) and  the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to carry out mass market operation in the near future so that the prices will immediately decrease.

Furthermore, President Jokowi said that the Government has started to distribute rice assistance to 21.3 million beneficiary families until upcoming November this year. Every beneficiary family will receive 10 kilograms of rice.
