President Jokowi opens the Ulema National Conference and Nahdlatul Ulama Grand Conference in Jakarta, Monday (09/18).

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (09/18) officially opened the 2023 Ulema National Conference and Nahdlatul Ulama Grand Conference.

The opening ceremony was held at Al-Hamid Islamic Boarding School, Cipayung, Jakarta.

In his remarks, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation for the strong commitment of Nahdlatul Ulama (Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization) to foster tolerance, unity, and peace in Indonesia, based on the value of Pancasila.

“The great potential [of the NU] should be consolidated and well-organized, and the quality must be improved in social, religion and humanity sectors, as well as in science and technology sectors in the professional and business communities,” President Jokowi said.

For the record, the conference will be held for three days from September 18 to September 20, with the theme of “Accompanying Ummah to Win the Future”. The conference is attended by 34 Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Representatives (PWNU) and Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch Representatives from aboard.

Accompanying President Jokowi on the event were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas, Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Chairperson of Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board Yahya Cholil Staquf, Speaker of House of Representatives Puan Maharani and spouse of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Ibu Sinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid.
