President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (11/22) visited quake-affected areas in Cugenang district, Cianjur regency, West Java province.

On that occasion, the President inspected Cibeureum Road connecting Bogor and Cianjur that has just been cleaned and is now ready for operation after it got covered with landslide materials following the quake.

In his statement, President Jokowi offered deepest condolences for the victims of the disaster that hit Cianjur regency, West Java province on Monday (11/21).

He also told the public that he had ordered Government officials to join hands to support post-disaster management, including by cleaning and opening roads blocked by landslide debris and evacuating victims buried by the landslide.

“The roads that were covered until yesterday have been opened. Afterwards, we will speed up the handling particularly related to evacuation process,” he said.

In addition, the President also ensured that the Government would provide cash aid to the affected residents whose houses are damaged by the quake.

The Government will give as much as Rp50 million for heavily damaged houses, Rp25 million for moderately damaged houses, and Rp10 million for slightly damaged houses, he added.

“However, the most important thing is to ensure that the construction of quake-affected houses comply with earthquake-resistant building standards set by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing. Since the BMKG (the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) said that the earthquake usually occurs every 20 years, we aim to build houses that are earthquake-resistant,” he remarked.
