President Jokowi Oversees Vaccination for Students, Door-to-Door Vaccination
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (14/7) through video conference inspected vaccination carried out by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN)for students, as well as door-to-door vaccination in fourteen provinces targeting around 49,000 people.
“I would like to express my gratitude and highest appreciation for the vaccination for our students, both those in junior high school and high school. Today 49,000 [people] will be vaccinated, 15,000 junior high school students, 15,000 high school students, and also 19,000 [people] for the door-to-door program,” President Jokowi said from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
The Government, the President said, continues to boost vaccination so that herd immunity can be achieved immediately, adding that the Government aims to inoculate at least 70 percent of the population or 181.5 million people.
The President also expressed appreciation for the door-to-door vaccination as they could reach more people, while expressing hope that more people will participate in the vaccination.
On the occasion, President Jokowi also held a dialogue with various regions that participate in the vaccination.
To these students, the President asked them to maintain discipline in observing health protocols after vaccination, including during face-to-face learning. The Head of State also asked the students to keep their spirit high in their studies.
“I want you to remain motivated with your learning.Don’t slack off on both online learning as well as face-to-face learning, later if it is allowed,” he said.
The President also added that vaccinations should also be given to educators and education personnel.
Meanwhile, Head of BIN Budi Gunawan explained that the vaccination for students and from door-to-door were carried out in fourteen provinces in the epicenter area, including the provinces of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Papua.
“We are adopting the door-to-door vaccination method used by several countries. This method has been able to boost participation and to reach families who do not have access and are afraid to go out of the house for fear of contracting COVID-19,” Budi said.
Budi also expressed hope that the vaccination drive can continue to be intensified in order to immediately achieve herd immunity.(TGH/UN) (FI/EP)
