President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (08/29) stated that all preparations for Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia had been thoroughly made.

“Inshallah, everything will go smoothly. The Pope will visit several places and will attend a Mass at Gelora Bung Karno stadium,” President Jokowi said after inaugurating Leuwikeris Dam in Tasikmalaya regency, West Java province.

According to the President, Pope Francis’ arrival in Indonesia is not merely a religious visit, but also carries an important mission to global issues.

“Especially for peace. I think this is crucial and our meeting will discuss it so that peace can prevail in all wars, be it in Gaza, Ukraine, or other conflicts in several countries,” the Head of State said, adding that he will accompany the Pope during the visit.

For the record, Pope Francis’ visit will be a historical moment for Indonesia, the largest Muslim-populated country in the world. Indonesia is also known for its religious diversity and interfaith tolerance. Pope Francis’ visit is also expected to strengthen the message of peace and harmony amid differences and provide a positive impact on interfaith relations in the country.
