President Jokowi Tells Cabinet to Prepare for 2023 Basketball World Cup
Ahead of the 2023 International Basketball Federation (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) FIBA World Cup, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered his Cabinet to prepare a national basketball team.
For the record, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan have been selected to co-host the FIBA World Cup, a basketball world cup.
“This is an international trust to our nation that we should make the most of,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Limited Cabinet Meeting on the 2023 FIBA World Cup Preparation at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/2).
According to the President, there are several aspects that should be resolved although it still three years before the event. One of those aspects, he added, is laws and regulations that become the basis for organizing FIBA World Cup.
“That includes the preparation on budget allocation and settlement of hosting fee obligations which must be fulfilled to FIBA,” he added.
The Head of State also urged the Cabinet to immediately prepare the organizing committee, which is tasked to prepare a comprehensive design of activities starting from planning, budgeting, and pre-event activities.
The organizing committee is also tasked to prepare matters related to security and safety, health affairs, and promoting Indonesia tourism, he added.
”I also want the venues used as a match arena to be prepared according to the standards set by FIBA, starting from seating, dressing rooms, match arena’s wooden tiles, hospitality areas, internet connectivity, and other aspects,” the President said. (MAY/EN)
