President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on recipients of government-sponsored Ultra Micro financing (UMi) to expand their business.

“We hopes (the recipients) could expand their market and pay monthly installment,” President Jokowi said during a meeting with the recipients of Ultra Micro financing (UMi) in his working visits in Central Market, Gorontalo City, Gorontalo province, Friday (1/3).

President Jokowi also reminded UMi recipients to spend the loan wisely.

“The installment must be paid every month. If the loan recipients are disciplined with the installment, they may borrow more money from the lender to expand the business,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also mentioned his experience in running his business, starting from small amount of Bank loan to become a factory owner.

The Government, the President said, also provides several micro financing programs, including Mekaar (Fostering the Economy of the Prosperous Family) run by state-owned community development institution PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) for small business, UMi for ultra-micro business and Micro Waqf Bank for business entities in Islamic boarding schools.

“(The programs) aim to develop small business entities to become medium enterprises and finally to become big enterprises,” the President said, adding that success in business does not come overnight but it takes honesty, hard work, and discipline. (UN/JAY/ES)
