President Jokowi Urges Banking, Business Sectors to Take Part in Economic Recovery

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on banking sector and the business world to disburse and expand the coverage of credits in a bid to speed up Indonesia’s economic recovery.

“I’d like to invite banking sector and the business world to immediately expand and disburse credit, as well as to stimulate businesses. Once again, we must make the pandemic a momentum to transform Indonesia’s economy,” the President said in his remarks at the 2022 UOB Economic Outlook “Empowering the Indonesian Economy for Stronger Recovery”, Wednesday (15/9).

Besides striving to revive the economy, the Government, he added, is also developing sustainable and equitable economy.

The Head of State expressed belief that Indonesia’s economy will post a higher growth and have considerable market potential.

“(Economy) of our trading partners also recovered in the second quarter of 2021. China’s economy rose 7.9 percent year on year, the United States’ economy grew by 12.2 percent, Japan’s economy posted a growth of 7.6 percent, and India reported a 20.1-percent economic growth. We must seize this opportunity to boost our exports,” he said.

In addition, President Jokowi also expressed optimism that investment will increase since Indonesia has carried out structural reforms to provide ease of doing business, one of which through risk-based Online Single Submission that aims to improve investment climate in the country.

“I’d like invite you all to seize this opportunity. Therefore, we can ensure the health of our people and promote a sustainable and equitable economic growth,” he remarked. (FID/UN)(RAS/EP)
