President Jokowi Welcomes ASEAN Leaders in Labuan Bajo
Presiden Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Wednesday morning (05/10), welcomed ASEAN leaders attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit, at Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. The President greeted, shook hands, and also had a photo session with every ASEAN leader in front of the hotel lobby.
Prime Minister (PM) of Cambodia, H.E. Hun Sen, was the first ASEAN leader arrived at the hotel, followed by PM of Laos, H.E. Sonexay Siphandone; PM of Malaysia, The Hon. Anwar Ibrahim; President of the Philippines, H.E. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.; Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, H.M. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah; PM of Timor-Leste, H.E. Taur Matan Ruak; PM of Singapore, H.E. Lee Hsien Loong; Deputy PM of Thailand, H.E. Don Pramudwinai, and PM of Viet Nam, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh.
For the record, ASEAN leaders from Thailand and Myanmar did not attend the Summit. PM of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha was absent due to the Thailand General Election on 14 May 2023. With regard to Myanmar’s participation in the Summit, ASEAN leaders agreed to invite a non-political representative to represent the country.
After greeting all ASEAN leaders and representatives, the President had a brief conversation with them at the hotel lobby and together posed for a group photo in front of a phinisi ship background with the logo of ASEAN Summit 2023 on it. Afterwards, all leaders and representatives attended the opening of the plenary session of the 42nd ASEAN Summit led by President Jokowi. (DND/UN) (GA/MMB)
