President Prabowo Subianto Sunday (03/16) presided over a limited meeting with several minister of thr Red and White Cabinet in Hambalang, Bogor Regency discuss the acceleration of national downstreaming in various strategic sectors.
The focus of the meeting was to ensure the real impact of downstreaming projects on job creation and equitable economic growth across the country.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani said that his Ministry and relevant ministries have inventoried numerous downstreaming projects in the mineral, coal, aquaculture, agriculture, and plantation sectors.
A comprehensive analysis, he said, is conducted to set priorities for projects capable of generating maximum benefits for the economy and the people’s welfare.
“We prioritize which projects have positive impacts, especially in terms of job creation. It is one of the main parameters we observed earlier,” Rosan said after the meeting.
The Minister also stated that downstreaming projects are also evaluated based on their contribution in reducing imports, boosting exports, and improving national industrial competitiveness.
Rosan also highlighted the President’s directives to prevent downstreaming from stopping at the initial stage, instead serving as an entry point for a broader industrialization process.
“Mr. President’s directives are to create the most multiplier effects so that we can industrialize because the downstreaming is part of the goal of this industrialization,” he said.
Not only macro-economic oriented, downstreaming projects are also geared to involve pond farmers, plantation farmers, and surrounding communities, thus improving their welfare.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia underscored the President’s commitment to advancing downstreaming projects.
Bahlil added that the meeting also addressed the President’s decision to implement twenty one priority downstreaming projects.
“Mr. President pointed out that the implementation must be highly professional and carry significant economic value,” Bahlil said.
Furthermore, President Prabowo Subianto also highlighted the importance of distributing downstreaming investment evenly across the country rather than concentrating it on just one island. According to him, this is necessary to maintain economic growth throughout Indonesia.
“This is part of the instrument for economic growth,” Bahlil said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/EP)
