President Prabowo Subianto Orders Thorough Investigation on Illegal Sea Fence in Tangerang
President Prabowo Subianto summoned Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and Deputy Minister Didit Herdiawan at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (01/20) to talk about illegal sea fence installed in the coastal area of Tanjung Sand, Tangerang regency, Banten province.
Sakti, after the meeting, said that the installation of sea fence was unauthorized.
“The sea fence is not only installed in Tangerang, but also in Bekasi. In Tangerang, it was reported that the sea fence doesn’t have permit,” he said.
According to him, the installation of sea fence has violated the provisions in the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, which requires that every development in marine areas must have a permit for spatial utilization activities or KKPRL. Therefore, as an initial step, the Ministry has carried out a sealing of the construction.
“After we sealed the fence, we identified who owns it because we did not know who the owner was. Legally, there must be someone who owns it,” he said, adding that the certificate of ownership of the sea fence, which spans 30 hectares, is illegal.
Regarding this issue, Sakti said that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed him to investigate the issue thoroughly.
He went on to say that the handling of the sea fence will involve other parties, such as the Navy and the Maritime Security Agency. This collaborative measure is needed to ensure that the actions taken are in line with the applicable law.
“Those are things that I had reported to the President. If the fence is illegal, it will belong to the state since it causes erosion. But on the other hand, since we promised to remove it, we will do it together with all parties to ensure no mistakes are made,” he added. (BPMI/ABD) (EST/MMB)
