Honorable President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier;

Distinguished Ministers and High-Ranking Officials of Germany and Indonesia;

Distinguished members of the press.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Shalom,
Salve,
Om Swastiastu,
Namo Buddhaya,
Greetings of virtue,
May peace be upon us all.

Guten Tag, Herzlich Willkommen.

First and foremost, I would like to extend a warm welcome and express my gratitude to President Steinmeier for his return visit to Indonesia. It is a great honour for us. This state visit holds profound significance for Indonesia, as it demonstrates the strong and enduring relations between Germany and Indonesia.

This visit serves as an important momentum amidst an increasingly uncertain global landscape. Strengthening and sustaining the partnership between Indonesia-Germany remain a priority. It also marks the beginning of preparations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Germany, which will be commemorated in the coming year of 2027.

During our meeting today, we discussed ways to further strengthen the Indonesia-Germany partnership, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment.

We agreed to continue increasing the mutually beneficial trade and investment volume. I emphasized the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe, and we hope the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) can reach a substantive conclusion. We also hope that Germany will continue to play an active role in supporting the finalization process of internal agreements in Europe so that it can deliver concrete benefits for business communities in both countries.

Cooperation with Germany is also being advanced through the CITA (Competitiveness, Industrial Modernization, and Trade Acceleration) program.

Indonesia further invites Germany to expand its investments in key strategic sectors in Indonesia, including energy transition, industrial downstreaming, automotive manufacturing–as we are moving toward electric vehicles–as well as the development of the semiconductor industry.

We also welcome Germany’s participation in the supply chain of critical minerals and rare earth elements, as well as in our infrastructure development.

Furthermore, we highly appreciate the Partnering in Business with Germany program, which supports micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Indonesia will also host the second Joint Economic and Investment Committee meeting later this year.

In the field of healthcare workforce development, we greatly appreciate the signing of the Letter of Intent regarding global skills partnership in the nursing sector.

Indonesia also seeks to expand employment opportunities for Indonesian workers in Germany, including in high-technology sectors.

President Steimer and I share the view that all conflicts must be resolved through dialogue and negotiations. We are committed to cooperate through diplomacy to promote and safeguard global peace and stability.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I firmly believe that Germany should play a more active and influential role because we need a strong partnership with Germany and with Europe. The visit of the President of Germany today is a hallmark of the immense importance of that partnership.

That concludes my statement. Thank you.

(YA/MMB)
