President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Yes, we want to reintroduce Kebaya in order to revive Indonesian character and personality. Because once again, the Kebaya is the character of Indonesian society, Indonesian women who are graceful, gentle, well-manner, and modest. It could be seen in Istana Berkebaya (the Palace with Kebaya) earlier.

And, I think this must continue to be carried out intensively not only in Jakarta, but in the regions with their own Kebaya, such as  Encim Kebaya from Jakarta,  and  Sundanese, Javanese, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Sumatra styles, all of the regions have their own Kebaya.

There were a lot of Kebaya earlier, what is your opinion about their cultural wealth, Sir?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Yes, I see that if it continues to be performed like this, new creations, designs, and new innovations will emerge with different colors, designs, yes those colorful…that’s Indonesia.

What is it for?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Yes, this is growing better, we want not only ministers, not only in the office of Governor, but the society in general. We want them to love… to enjoy wearing Kebaya again in all activities and events across the country.

Is there any obligation for the institutions to wear the Kebaya?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Not everything has to be forced.
