Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia on the Working Visit to Africa, at Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatera Province, August 20, 2023
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Today, I am leaving for Africa accompanied by limited delegates. I will visit four countries, namely Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa. This is my first visit to Africa during my tenure as President.
Indonesia and Africa have long historical relations as Indonesia was the initiator and host of the 1955 Asia-Africa Summit. Indonesia also played an important role in establishing Non-Aligned Movement at that time. Thus, it is the Bandung Spirit that I will promote during my visit in Africa by strengthening solidarity and cooperations among the Global South countries.
Kenya and Tanzania opened their embassies in Jakarta last year. This is the commitment of the two countries to enhance cooperations with Indonesia. Meanwhile, Mozambique is the first African country that has PTA (Preferential Trade Agreement) with Indonesia. Regarding my visit to South Africa, Indonesia is invited to the BRICS Summit. Indeed, in the margin of the BRICS Summit, I will hold bilateral meetings with other Heads of State.
Insha Allah, my delegates and I will return to Indonesia on August 25, 2023.
Thank you.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
