Proper Elections Lead to Good Governance, Lawmakers Says
Members of Commission II of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) overseeing home affairs on Wednesday (18/12) visited the office of North Sumatra provincial government.
“We are here to hear and follow up the aspirations of North Sumatra province,” Chairperson of the Commission II Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung said in Medan.
According to Doli, during the visit this time, the lawmakers focus their attention on discussing next year’s simultaneous regional elections in 23 out of 33 regencies and municipalities in the province in order to implement good governance principal.
“There is no way we can implement good governance if the elections are not properly organized,” he added.
In the meantime, North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi said he is glad about the arrival of the delegation. He also expressed belief that the presence of those lawmakers can give the regional government benefits in implementing good governance principles.
“I hope the meeting can strengthen synergy between the legislative branch and the executive branch,” he said.
For the record, members of Commission II of the DPR are also slated to visit North Sumatra chapter of the National Land Agency (BPN) to evaluate infrastructure development program as well as to oversee problems of land dispute cases in the province. (DND/GUN/ES)
