Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) Toll Road in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, July 11, 2023

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

 Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good morning,

May peace be upon us all.

Distinguished ministers, Governor of West Java Province, Regent of Sumedang, and all regents in attendance,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank God, today [the construction of] Cisumdawu toll road (Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan toll road) is finished and it is ready to operate. The toll road connects us to Bandung through Cipularang and Cipali toll roads.

And just so everyone knows, Cisumdawu toll road construction began in 2011, meaning it took 12 years to build. Indeed, there were many problems on the ground, especially about land acquisition. And we are [in front of] the twin tunnels that span 472 meters. No other toll road in Indonesia has twin tunnels like the ones we saw this morning.

The 61.6-kilometer-long Cisumdawu toll road was built with a budget of Rp18.3 trillion, Rp9.07 trillion from the Government and the rest from the private sector, financed using Government-to-business cooperation (KPBU).

And we hope that the operation of this toll road can boost connectivity to Kertajati Airport. We did work on the construction of the toll road and Kertajati Airport together so that they would be finished at the same time. However, once again, due to land acquisition issues, the construction of Kertajati Airport was finished early, but the toll road was not so it hindered Kertajati Airport operations.

We hope that after the toll road construction is finished, I have stated it this morning at Kertajati Airport, once Cisumdawu toll road is ready, Kertajati Airport will be fully operated in October. Now it has begun to serve flights for hajj, hajj embarkation for West Java province and there are several incoming flights.

And in my opinion, Kertajati Airport that is supported by Cisumdawu toll road is our future airport because now [investors from] many countries want to invest in and make partnership with Kertajati Airport, including to operate it and increase existing flight traffic. It is our hope.

The way I see it, if many countries want to invest in it, it means Kertajati has a value. And we hope that it can be a major airport in the future.

That concludes my statement.

And by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this morning I inaugurate Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan toll road (Cisumdawu toll road) in Sumedang regency, West Java province.
