Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Joint Press Statement with President of Vietnam, Hanoi Presidential Palace, Vietnam, January 12, 2024

Your Excellency President Thưởng,

Thank you for warmly welcoming me and my delegations.

We rejoice over the ten years of strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam, especially over the fact that our trade value surpasses the target of US$10 billion and our cooperation in various sectors remains strong.

Regarding the meeting, allow me to convey several matters.

First, we agreed to set a new trade target.

Second, in the field of investment,  I welcome the increasing volume of investment between the two countries, from large companies and two Indonesian unicorns have made a significant investment in Vietnam.

I believe they will be given ease and secure protection and I would also like to invite Vietnamese companies to increase their investment in Indonesia.

Third, in the field of food security, we have come to an agreement to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture and fisheries. The MoU on fisheries cooperation is a great momentum to push for collaboration and investment in this sector.
Fourth, in the strategic industry cooperation, I welcome the investment commitment of VinFast to build an ecosystem for electric vehicle and battery in Indonesia.

We also agreed to advance cooperation in the fields of energy transition and digital economy to bring prosperity for the people and the region.

Lastly, Indonesia and Vietnam also stay committed to maintaining stability and economic growth of the region through the concrete implementation of ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and the support to the Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship.
