During a bilateral meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit, Osaka, Japan (28/6), South Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed his government’s support for the ASEAN Indo-Pacific concept, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has said.

The Indo-Pacific concept, which was recently agreed by ASEAN leaders at the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, is a concept of cooperation between countries along the Indian-Pacific Oceans aimed at increasing cooperation by prioritizing the principles of openness and respect for international law.

The bilateral meeting, Retno added, also discussed the follow-up of the visit of the President Jokowi to Seoul in September last year, including cooperation in strategic industries and South Korean investments in Indonesia including in entertainment and garment sectors, and in other sectors as well.

“In addition, the two countries also agreed to immediately finalize the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IKCEPA) negotiations and both President Jokowi and President Moon Jae-in were also committed to finalizing asset negotiations by the end of this year,” Retno said.
