Sports Minister Outlines Indonesia’s International Sports Events Next Year

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo led an Internal Meeting (Rapin) on the Hosting of International Sports Events and Transformation of Indonesia’s Sports Sector at the Presidential Palace, Tuesday (07/09).

“The main agenda [of the meeting] is the hosting of international sporting events for 2025 and the plan to grant the FIFA and FIBA organizational status to have offices in Indonesia,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo during a press statement after the meeting.

He mentioned several main agendas for international sports events expected to be held in Indonesia, including surfing championship, gymnastic championship, the World Rally Championship, and the World Abilitysport Games.

“The world’s surfing championship will be held in seven locations, the gymnastic championship will be held in Jakarta and the World Rally Championship will be held in North Sumatra,” Dito said.

According to him, Indonesia will also host the first UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in 2025.

He went on to explain that Indonesia will continue to regularly host MotoGP championship in Mandalika, Aqua Bike dan Powerboat H2O in Toba Lake, and the MXGP (Motor Cross Grand Prix) next year.

Regarding the organizational status of the FIFA and FIBA, Dito said that the President has given approval for it. “The President agreed to grant international organizational status to FIFA and FIBA, which is a prerequisite for them to have official offices in Indonesia,” Dito remarked.
