Reporter:

Mr. President. How was it?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Since the Mandalika Circuit is new and it just rained, I can’t go fast. Nevertheless, I think everyone else was behind me.

Reporter:

How about the track, Sir?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Well, there are many sharp turns. There are 17 sharp turns which are very difficult for me. I think it would be no problem for the racers but it was for me.

Reporter:

So, what do you want to tell to all Indonesians and the international community since now Indonesia has a circuit?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

Ok, ok. First, we want to invite all to visit Mandalika, particularly to attend events to be held in Mandalika Circuit. Nevertheless, strict health protocols will continue to be imposed. I also had ordered [COVID-19] Task Force to monitor the events, so that the enforcement of health protocols in the management of the events can be maintained.

Reporter:

Sir, what are the impacts on the economy?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

We expect it can create new centers for economic growth in West Nusa Tenggara. I also hope Mandalika Circuit will annually organize big events which will contribute to economic growth in the province.

Reporter:

What are the next measures to further develop this area besides developing venue for racing?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):

We try this out first, the World Superbike, and MotoGP later. Afterwards, we will evaluate the events so we’ll know the direction.

Thank you. (RAS/MMB)
