I just inspected the mangrove forest in Bali province which has been built since 2003. This place serves as a pilot rehabilitation ecosystem of mangrove forests in the country that can be utilized as a means of education, tourism, and an economic booster for the community.

This mangrove rehabilitation model is the one that we would like to replicate, we adopt [in order to become a pilot] for mangrove rehabilitation programs in other provinces, which we will continue to be carried out in coastal areas in order to restore, to preserve our mangrove forest areas. It also aims to anticipate and mitigate global climate change that continues to and will happen.

By planting mangrove trees, it is our hope that it will function to reduce wave energy, protect beaches from abrasion, curb water intrusion, improve the quality of the environment, both in coastal environments and habitats in coastal areas. We also hope that there will be an improvement in fisheries production and other marine products, especially mangrove crabs. Last but not least, it is expected to boost people’s income.

That concludes my speech on this auspicious occasion.

And this mangrove forest would likely be one of the venues that we will show to G20 leaders next year.

I thank you. (AP/MUR)
