The atmosphere in the conference room at the International Congress Centre, Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday (10/13), grew warm as a historic event was taking place. Amid the world’s attention toward the end of the prolonged conflict in Gaza, world leaders convened to witness the signing of a peace and ceasefire agreement, a historic moment for the Middle East and the world.

After the signing ceremony, the President of the United States Donald Trump gave a press statement in front of the international media. In his signature style, President Trump expressed his appreciation to the world leaders who were present and played a role in helping realizing the agreement.

“Also with us is President Prabowo, an extraordinary figure from Indonesia,” said President Trump, glancing toward President Prabowo Subianto who was standing among other world leaders. At that moment, the two Heads of State stepped forward and shook hands.

President Trumps’s statement indicated recognition and appreciation for Indonesia’s significant role in the region’s peace diplomacy. As one of the countries with the largest muslim population in the world, Indonesia’s presence at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit demonstrated its commitment to consistently promoting global stability, humanity, and justice.

In another part of his speech, President Trump once again mentioned Indonesia in an appreciative tone. “We have already talked about Indonesia, and I just want to say that it’s a big, powerful country, whose endeavor is extraordinary,” said President Trump.

Amid a diplomatic atmosphere rich with symbolism, the handshake between President Prabowo and President Trump marked a new spirit of interregional cooperation in achieving everlasting peace.

For Indonesia, active involvement in the peace process in Gaza also reflects its long-term commitment to helping uphold a peaceful, just, and civilized world order, as mandated in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.
