President Prabowo Calls on University Leaders to Deliver Greater Tangible Contributions

President Prabowo Subianto gave directives to rectors and directors of state and private universities, on Thursday (01/15).
On that occasion, the President emphasized his fundamental view regarding the strategic position of academics as the nation’s intellectual force. He was of the view that university rectors, directors, and professors are the brains of our country, bearing moral and social responsibilities to make tangible contributions to the society.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto in his press statement said that considering that university leaders and especially professors are the brains of our country, they represent a gathering of intelligent individuals who should serve as people of value to the society, the nation, and the state.
In that event, President Prabowo called on all academics to do self reflection for the mandate entrusted to them. He added that they are prominent figures entrusted to lead the development of knowledge and to uphold academic values.
The Head of the State also expressed hope that universities can take active and crucial roles to address current development challenges as well as to improve people’s welfare.
Considering that rectors and university leaders hold a very strategic position, the President urged them to make the best possible endeavour of that mandate for the interests of the nation and the state. He also emphasized that the role of academics is highly anticipated by the society.
For the record, the event, which was the third invitation of the President to university leaders during his administration, demonstrated President Prabowo’s strong attention to higher education and universities, while also reflecting great expectations for universities to play a more concrete role in the national development.
