President Prabowo Subianto (01/21) successfully concluded his working visit to the United Kingdom, bringing home several strategic agreements in maritime and education sectors, as well as investment commitment worth billions of Poundsterling.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a press statement said that the President during the visit also attended several important meetings, including that with Prime Minister of United Kingdom Keir Starmer and King Charles III.
Teddy added that the meeting resulted in three significant agreements; first, an agreement in investment under which the United Kingdom is committed to investing £4 billion in Indonesia; second, an agreement to strengthen maritime cooperation; and third, an agreement for the procurement of 1,582 Indonesian-made fishing vessels.
“The fishing vessels, according to Minister of Maritime Affairs, will employ 600,000 workers. The units will also be produced and assembled in Indonesia,” he said.
President Prabowo Subianto also paid close attention to the improvement of human capital through cooperation in education with the United Kingdom.
During the working visit, the President met with 24 professors from 24 leading universities in the UK, namely from the King’s College London, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University of Edinburgh, and the like.
“There will be cooperation in education sector. The President is planning to establish 10 new campuses in Indonesia, focusing in medical science and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics),” he added.
For the record, the cooperation will cover various schemes, ranging from increasing the number of Indonesian students pursuing a degree in the UK, establishment of British university campuses in Indonesia, to lecturer exchange programs.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy also stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the UK Minister of Education, along with representatives of the Russell Group—Britain’s leading universities—is expected to help improve the global rankings of Indonesian universities.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Head of State continued to carry out national strategic agendas.
Teddy also revealed that the President led a coordination meeting via video conference with the Task Force for the Restoration of Forest Areas (Satgas PKH), which was established in January 2025, two months after the President’s inauguration.
“After the President received report from the Task Force during the meeting, he decided to revoke permits of companies that violated the law,” Teddy said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/EP)
