2018 Asian Games Athletes Village to be Completed by Sept 2017: President Jokowi
President Joko Jokowi Widodo witnessed the topping off of the Athletes Village for the 18th Asian Games 2018, in Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday (29/12) afternoon. The building that has been on the stage of topping off is located in Block D10 Tower 1 and 3 (24 floors) and Block C2 Tower 1 and 3 (18 floors).
“Today we have been doing the topping off in Block D10, there are seven towers, and in Block C2, three towers. This will be able to accommodate approximately 5,400 athletes, and later in the Block C2, approximately 1,900 journalists and officials,” the President told reporters after witnessing the topping off.
In an area of ??approximately 10 hectares, ten towers will be built with 7,424 units to support the implementation of the 18th Asian Games 2018. The overall athletes towers can accommodate 22,278 people. The construction of the towers is expected to be completed by September 2017.
The President considered that based on the mockup, the towers have been very good. Now it is time for completion, and the towers are expected to be completed by 2017.
On a separate occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi is also upbeat and believes that the completion of athletes village construction will be on time. “We would have to constantly monitor this on an ongoing basis. And I am grateful that Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Pak Basuki actually sees the day-to-day development,” Nahrawi added.
According to Nahrawi, after the implementation of the 2018 Asian Games, the Kemayoran towers will be used as a shelter for the city dwellers who are entitled, that is, for lower middle class and relocation of slums in Jakarta.
