President Joko Jokowi Widodo inaugurated the 16th National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) entitled Equitable and Sustainable Economic Revolution and the launch of HIPMI Go to School, at the Ritz Carlton, Mega Kuningan, Jakarta, Monday (27/3).
President Jokowi suggested that the youth either Senior High School (SMA) students or college students never be afraid to start a business. “Do it, start everything related to entrepreneurship with a struggle,” President Jokowi stated.
President Jokowi asked the younger generation to immediately start running a business, because the more often they face ups and downs, the more experienced they will be. “We can resolve whatever barriers come to us,” he said.
President Jokowi explained that in the future, we will enter an age of fierce competition amongst individuals, employers, or countries. According to the President, we cannot stop the age of openness.
On the occasion, President Jokowi gave an example of business process outsourcing (BPO), where even though we have the power here, but we often lose out to other countries. “We have the power, such as design, graphics, animation, application/software in which these will play a role in the future, and the market that we manage today is still very small,” he said.
According to the President, Indonesia is very promising when it comes to the BPO, given those who are in this sector is still very small. In fact, he added, almost 100 percent of the business is run by the youth, not the other way around.
To that end, the President asked HIPMI to formulate it. “First, please provide a real formula, but do not beg for anything. The formula that fits the youth. Second, get the public involved. Third, make it export-oriented products, not for domestic use,” the President said.
Previously, HIPMI Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia in his report said that with the launch of HIPMI Go to School, it is expected to change the mindset of the youth, not only are they educated to be an employee, but also an entrepreneur. “We believe that in an age of demographic bonus (2030-2035), it is the youth who will determine the fate of the nation’s journey, it would go wrong if they do not have a good foundation,” he said.
The inauguration of HIPMI Rakernas was attended by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Setya Novanto, and formers Chairman of HIPMI.
