President Jokowi Hands Over Land Certificate for National Press Figure Adinegoro
On the sidelines of his working visit in West Sumatera province, President Joko Jokowi Widodo stopped by the residence of national press figure the late Djamaludin Adinegoro on Jalan Prof. M. Yamin, Pasar Talawi, Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, Thursday (8/2) .
Adinegoros grandson, Medrial Alamsyah, said he was touched when the President and First Lady Ibu Iriana arrived at Djamaludin Adinegoro’s birthplace.
“This is the first time the President comes here to pay special attention to a national press figure and this is extraordinary,” Medrial said.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also handed over the land certificate to the Adinegoro family, who is represented by another Adinegoro’s grandchildren, Eriswati Alamsyah.
After submitting the land certificate and talking with the family, President Jokowi and First Lady Ibu Iriana made a pilgrimage to the tomb of national hero Prof. Mohamad Yamin, located not far from Adinegoro’s house. For the record, Mohd. Yamin is the elder brother of Djamaludin Adinegoro.
Born in Talawi, Sawah Lunto, West Sumatra on 14 August, Djamaludin Adinegoro received the title Datuk Madjo Sutan. However, he went under the name of Adinegoro while pursuing his study at STOVIA in the course of 1918-1925. Similarly, he more often used the name in many of his works. The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) perpetuates his name for the highest award in journalism, namely the Adinegoro Award. (AGG/JAY/ES) (MUR/EP/YM/Naster).
