Asian Games: Indonesia Seals Second Gold in Wushu
Indonesian wushu exponent Lindswell Kwok has bagged the second gold medal for the country by winning the 2018 Asian Games womens taijijian competition at the Hall B JIExpo, Jakarta, Monday (20/8).
Competing in front of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the 26-year-old garnered the highest score with 19.50 points and outperformed her closest rival Hong Kongs Uen Ying Juanitamok with score of 9.71 and Agatha Chrystenzenwong from the Philippines with score of 9.68, each won silver and bronze.
Shortly after finishing her performance, she turned to the President and gave him a thumbs up, which he promptly returned and after Lindswells score appeared on the screen, she approached the President and shook his hand
For the record, this is her third attempt at claiming a gold medal at the Asian Games, after competing in the previous two editions, in 2010 and 2014. Lindswell won silver at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
In the meantime, President Jokowi praised Lindswells performance and encouraged all Indonesian athletes to maintain the gold-medal spirit. He also conveyed his congratulatory message via Twitter.
Lindwell has previously announced that she would retire after the 2018 Games.
This is the second gold medal for Indonesia at the Asiad, with the first one clinced by taekwondoin Defia Rosmaniar on Sunday. (*/ES) (STU/EP/Naster)
