Indonesian 2018 Asian Games Medalist to be Hired As Civil Servants, Minister Says

Indonesians athletes who win medals at the 18^th Asian Games will be given the opportunity to become civil servants or members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), according to Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Comr. Gen. (ret.) Syafruddin, who is also Indonesian Chef de Mission for the 2018 Asian Games.

“The opportunity is not only gold medalists, but also those wining silver and bronze as long as they’re healthy,” Syafruddin said at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran, Jakarta, Monday (20/8).

The Minister made the statement after Indonesian wushu exponent Lindswell Kwok won a gold medal on Monday.

“She (Lindswell) is already a civil servant,” he said, adding that the prospect of becoming civil servants or members of the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) is expected to motivate athletes deliver best achievements in the Games and show the public that accomplished athletes can have their future guaranteed.

As of 2 p.m. on Monday, the Indonesian contingent has secured four golds, one silver, and one bronze

Women’s taekwondo athlete Defia Rosmaniar won Indonesia’s maiden gold medal from the martial art branch’s Poomsae event on Sunday and the second gold was won by wushu exponent Lindswell Kwok from the women’s Taijiquan-Taijijian event of wushu.

The third gold was won Tiara Andini Prastika from the women’s downhill event of mountain biking (MTB). She was the fastest biker in the women’s downhill race in Khe Bun, Subang regency, West Java, with a time record of 2 minutes 33.056 seconds on Monday.

The fourth gold was clinched by Khoirul Mukhib also from MTB, men’s downhill event in Subang, West Java who recorded the shortest time of 2 minutes 16.687 seconds.  (ANT/ES) (RAS/EP/Naster)
