The Government announced it will give bonuses to the athletes who win gold medal, silver medal, or bronze medal in the Asian Games, as well as to the coaches and coach assistant, according to Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi.

The Minister made the statement during a press conference at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Monday (8/27). He added that the bonus will include cash, to be hired as civil servants, and houses.

Nahrawi also ensured that the bonus would be distributed after the Asian Para Games because the Government also promised the same bonus for medalists at the Asian Para Games.

The Minister also explained that a single gold medalist will get Rp1 billion and the same amount will be given for each athlete in double category, while the gold winners in group will get Rp800-900 million per athlete.

“We have to calculate the bonuses in detail and all bonuses will be submitted to the bank account of each athlete without tax deduction,” Nahrawi said, adding that the bonuses are higher than those of in the 2014 Asian Games.

“The Government will provide civil servant jobs and houses for the athletes who secure gold, silver and bronze. The private companies will also give bonuses.” Nahrawi added.

Nahrawi also said that the Government is still calculating the exact amount that will be given for the sports team since every sport has its own characteristic. “We will also provide another bonus for the athletes who can exceed the target as a token of our appreciation for the athletes,” the Minister concluded.
