Indonesia Will Not Receive Loans from IMF, Sri Mulyani Confirms

Although Indonesia hosts the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – World Bank Group, in Bali, from October 8 to October 14, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani stressed that Indonesia will not take advantage from this forum to receive loans from the IMF.

The Minister also noted that the IMF will only provide loans for countries having difficulties in their balance of payment, while Indonesia itself is not facing any crisis in its balance of payment.

“We confirm that we do not receive loans from the IMF,” Sri Mulyani said at the media briefing of the 2018 International Monetary Fund (IMF) – World Bank Group at Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Bali, Monday (8/10).

According to Sri Mulyani, some people try to make as if this (receiving loan from the IMF) become an issue. The Minister also confirmed that as an IMF member out of 189 IMF member countries and a member of 192 members of the UN member countries tries to contribute to make a better global economy.  “Indonesia tries to contribute to make a better global economy to make the world secure and prosperous,” Sri Mulyani said.

Meanwhile IMF Managing Director ensured that Indonesia does not need assistance or loans from the IMF. “Loans from the IMF is not an option because Indonesia’s economy is doing well,” Legarde said in her written statement in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday.

Legarde added that Indonesia’s economy is well managed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warijo, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and others in the Government. (Public Relations of Ministry of Finance/*/ES)(HYP/EP/Naster)
