Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs on Monday (3/6) completed the isbat (confirmation) meeting and decided that the beginning of Eid Day this year falls on Wednesday (5/6).

“This year’s Ramadan will be rounded up to 30 days. Therefore, Syawal 1, 1440 Hijriah will fall on Wednesday,” said Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin in a press conference after the meeting.

Lukman added that none of the dozens of observers assigned spread in 34 provinces had spotted the hilal (new moon) as of Monday evening as the moon was still under the horizon.

For the record, the isbat meeting is conducted by Ministry of Religious Affairs in collaboration with Islamic mass organizations and related institutions. It aims determine the months of the Qamariah (Islamic calendar), especially Ramadhan, Syawal and Dzulhijjah. (Humas Kemenag/EN)
