Indonesia Holds Diplomatic Reception to Support IMO Council Member Re-nomination

In an effort to secure immense support for its re-nomination as a Member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council category C for the 2020-2021 period, Indonesian Government held a Diplomatic Reception at Hoare Memorial Hall, London, the United Kingdom, Wednesday (27/11).

The reception attended by 173 IMO member states was officially opened by Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Rizal Sukma. “This reception reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to IMO, particularly on the issues of safety, security, and marine environment protection in shipping and other global maritime issues,” Rizal added.

In the meantime, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi expressed his appreciation to IMO delegates for attending the event, and also for their support to Indonesia. The Minister also asserted Indonesia’s role in the cooperation with IMO member states.

Also on that occasion, Head of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Agung Firman Sampurna in which his office was proposed for the IMO External Auditor for 2020-2023 said that the BPK serves as an independent auditor and is responsible to the President.

He added that the BPK makes not only financial audit but also conducts performance audit. “We have experienced as an internal auditor in international atomic energy agency and international anti-corruption academy,” Agung added. (DI/ES)
