Gov’t Completes Construction of Rawasari Retention Basin in Tarakan of N. Kalimantan
The Indonesian Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has completed the construction of Rawasari retention basin in Karang Harapan of West Tarakan District, Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province.
The construction was carried out in stages using a total budget of Rp68.44 billion from the 2016 – 2018 State Budget.
The retention basin is expected to collect water during the rainy season in order to anticipate drought during the dry season. According to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, the retention basin is the best solution for supplying raw water need in Tarakan due to its high rainfall throughout the year.
The Rawasari retention basin has a 3.22-hectare inundation area with a capacity of 112,000 m3 equipped with a 4 km pipeline network of 40 cm in diameter and has 2 pumping units to meet the raw water need of urban and industrial households in Tarakan City with an intake discharge of 100 liters/second.
The retention basin was built in 3 stages. Phase I, using the 2016 State Budget, includes the construction of piles on the main structure, piles on the spillway, inlet structure, piles on the embankment structures, as well as inlet structure works.
The phase II, using the 2017 State Budget, includes works on the main structures and inundation area, the spillway, the embankment, the intake structure, generator building, as well as guardhouse.
Whereas phase III, using the 2018 State Budget, includes continuation works on the main structures and inundation area, the inlet structure, gates and portals, guard posts, pumps, and landscapes.
The implementing contractor of phase III is PT. Farrel Siak Perdana with the supervision of PT. Primary Celebes. (BKP Kementerian PUPR/EN)
