Gov’t Carries Out National Road Preservation in E. Java Province

The Government has announced it is carrying out preservation of national roads in three regencies in East Java province.

The move, the Government said, aims to boost the connectivity to the province’s newly built Kediri Airport.

Those three regencies in question are Nganjuk, Kediri, and Jombang and the total length of the national roads to undergo the preservation spans 307 kilometers.

Kediri airport, which began its construction in April 2020, aims to serve public in the region and its surrounding areas and is also one of the alternative airports in the province, Indonesia’s second most populous province.

Aside from increasing connectivity to the airport, the road preservation is also carried out in the context of tackling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as it is expected to smooth distribution of logistics, both for food and medical devices.

For that reason, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to improve the quality of roads in the form of routine maintenance, road reconstruction and widening the road to meet the standard.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the road preservation will provide safety and increase comfort to road users.

“Improved road access will also boost economy of the people in the surrounding areas,” said Basuki.

The project is carried out in three packages, namely Kertosono – Kediri – Tulungagung – Trenggalek with a total length of 101.28 kilometers and a budget of Rp42.5 billion.

The second package is Ngawi – Caruban – Nganjuk – Kertosono with a total length of 99.29 kilometers and a budget of Rp94.7 billion.

The third package is Kertosono – Jombang – Mojokerto – Gempol with a total length of 102.9 kilometers with a budget of Rp94.3 billion.

In addition to the preservation of national roads, in a bid to facilitate the flow of logistics distribution, the Government has also proposed to build a flyover in Mengkreng, Kediri Regency with a budget of Rp180 billion.

The spot is a meeting point between three regions, namely Kertosono (Nganjuk), Purwoasri (Kediri) and Jombang where heavy congestion often occurs. (Ministry of PUPR / EN)
