Gov’t Pushes Indonesian Industry to Improve Added Values

Added values of energy and mineral industry in Indonesia must continue to be improved as it is crucial for national interests and the people’s interests, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.
The President made the statement in his directives to the participants of the 13th batch of short term education program (PPSA XXIII) and the 62nd batch of regular education program of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) of the Republic of Indonesia at the State Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (13/10).
“Furthermore, the most important thing is massive downstreaming. We can no longer export raw materials that have no added value,” he said, adding that in addition to produce value-added products, Indonesia must also combine the use of natural resources with wisdom and conservation technology.
“We must maintain and uphold this sustainable economy principle through green economy and blue economy,” he said.
The President also reiterated the importance of boosting downstreaming and industrialization of all available commodities as it is a good opportunity to advance Indonesia.
“This is an opportunity. We must not miss another opportunity. When oil industry was booming, we lost [our chance]. When wood industry was booming, we lost [our chance]. No more. Mineral and coal must be our foundation to advance our country Indonesia,” he said.
According to the President, the opportunity to integrate a huge domestic industry does not come twice, so related parties must make the most of it.
“There will not be another opportunity. Will there be another one? No. this is our chance to integrate a huge industry in the country,” he remarked. (SLN/UN) (DH/EP)
