Gov’t Relaxes Policy on Mask-Wearing

In line with the increasingly under-control COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, the Government has decided to relax the policy on mask-wearing.

“If people are active outdoors or in an uncrowded open space, they are allowed not to use masks.  However, for activities indoor and in public transportation, masks are mandatory,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in his statement at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province, Tuesday (05/17).

The President also urged people who are in vulnerable categories and those with cough and cold symptoms to continue wearing masks during activities.

“For people who are categorized as vulnerable, elderly, or have comorbid diseases, I still recommend wearing masks during their activities. Likewise, for those who have cough and cold symptoms, they must still wear masks during their activities,” the President said.

In addition to relaxing the policy on mask-wearing, the Government has also relaxed domestic and foreign travel requirements for people who have received full dose of vaccination.

“For domestic and foreign travelers who have received a complete dose of vaccination, there is no longer a need to carry out a PCR or antigen swab test,” he remarked.  (FID/UN) (FI/EP)
